The numbers of bikes on the roads seem to be increasing every day. This is because it’s an easier way to move from one point to another without worrying about traffic, which results in less stress and much more.

Additionally, motorcycles have health benefits that few people know about. Here are some of the benefits that will make you ditch your car and opt for a bike instead.

Seven health benefits of motorcycle riding

1. It improves your mental health

Are you feeling stressed; this can be either from work or personal issues? The remedy to your stress is taking a bike ride. According to research, when riding a motorcycle, your mood improves, and stress levels reduce as well. This is because of endorphins hormones.

They are hormones found in the central nervous system, and their purpose is to relieve pain and stress. Therefore, the adrenaline rush you feel when accelerating is hormone being secreted from the central nervous system and pituitary gland. This, in turn, improves your mental health.

2. Helps to strengthen your neck

In this century, we spend most of our time scrolling down on our smartphones for long hours. On the other hand, there is also seating behind the desk and working on a computer the whole day.  We do this intending to make cash or even keeping up with what is trending. However, we end up straining our necks from such activities.

Here is where you start to complain about how your neck muscles are painful, among other issues. To help with this, we recommend you take a bike ride. This is because when riding, depending on your motorcycle style, you are seated upright, and your neck is in the right position. Another factor is the strength you do against the airflow. In time your start to feel less pressure from the wind. This strengthens your back and neck muscles.

3. Makes you smart

Riding a motorcycle is different from driving a car. Motorcycle riding requires you to be keen and very careful on the road. One of the reasons is you do not have a chassis to protect you as a car does.

When riding, your mental activity improves to ensure your level of concentration is high. Plus, the cognitive activity enables you to make a split-second judgment while on the road. This makes you smart and guarantees safety.

4. Helps you to shed off extra calories over time

Getting rid of excess fat in the body is not an easy task. This has seen you trying out various remedies such as diets, voluntary starvation, and even going to the gym. Do you see any changes in your body weight? If not, then it's time to try motorcycle riding to cut the extra pounds. According to a study, bikes play a significant role in your weight loss process. They are heavy machines that require one to use, his or her, body to navigate and balance it. If you ride on rough terrain, more energy is needed to do this. The body responds to this by increasing the insulin levels in the blood. This, in turn, breakdowns the extra fat in the body into glucose and provides energy. It leads to shedding off the extra calories in your body. However, remember that a proper and balanced diet, plus regular exercise is a crucial factor.

5. Improves your core strength and stability

Riding a motorcycle is more like going to a gym though not intense. When riding a bike, you are forced to sit in an upright posture. This is a position you have to maintain no matter the kind of terrain you are riding on. When doing so, you develop and strengthen your core muscles.

Additionally, when riding, you are going against the wind, which comes in handy at the same time. Hence maintain the posture when riding improves the body stability and muscle tones.

6. Helps to build strong leg muscles

Motorcycles require the use of the knees and thighs muscles. Therefore, when you get to ride the bike most of the time, the muscles will develop and become strong. This is the perfect way to work the muscles without stressing them.

Plus, if you are having joint pains in this region, it will be easily eliminated. It’s a light workout that is easy and fun to do at the same time. Hence grab your bike and start riding it once or twice a day to keep fit.

7. Makes you feel happier and more connected to the world

Have you realized that most of the people on bikes are usually happy?   This is because of the adrenaline hormone being secreted in the body. The chemical is responsible for making you happy.

Riding down the road on the bike gives you confidence as well and makes you feel connected to the surrounding. This is therapeutic, and you should try it.

Buying a used motorcycle from a private seller

At JP Motorsports and Marine, we focus on advice to our clients to get the best option for them and not only think about selling the expensive motorcycle. If it’s impossible to afford a new motorcycle, then a used motorcycle is the best option for you. However, if you are trying to save even more, there are things that we advocate you look into before buying any pre-owned motorcycle from a private seller if you don’t want to end up spending hundreds in repairs.

Check the title or registration of the bike

This is the first thing to check if the bike has. Hence look at the bike's license plate number and VIN number. These details should be in line with the title. You wouldn't want to purchase a bike that cannot be registered.

If the motorcycle does not have any registration papers, then you are to go to the relevant authorities and get it registered. This will be done at a fee, but it's worth it. You must do your due diligence as well to find out if the bike has a lien holder.

This helps to make an informed decision, plus the holder should have signed off their portion before purchasing the bike. If the seller does not have the registration documents with him or her, then you should opt for other sellers.

Ask

Ask for the background details

It is vital to have a history of the bike you are about to purchase. A good seller will have the relevant papers detailing every repair done on the bike. The service receipts and records will help you to ascertain the condition of the motorcycle before buying.

Though some do the repairs themselves and won't have these documents, they usually maintain their bikes in good shape, and if you find that kind of a seller, do not turn him or her down

Check the overall appearance

This is a technic that determines the quality of the bike you are purchasing. There are two types of sellers. One that will take time to clean the bike and ensure it is in good shape, and the other is one who wants to make quick cash. It is easy to tell the difference between the two sellers.

Before purchasing the motorcycle, ensure you have looked at it carefully. Give your eyes the task to point out the dirt spots. Take time and analyze the machine. If it does not have dirt at the hard to reach places, then it is a well-maintained bike.

On the other hand, if you notice there are spots where dirt can be seen through the seller claims to have cleaned it. This shows it has not been taken care of in the right manner, and purchasing it would be getting a raw deal.  A clean bike is usually a happy bike.

frame

Frame

The frame speaks a lot about the bike. If it had been involved in an accident or taken a hard landing or in some cases, bottomed out. The frame will tell you everything.

To check for these problems, slide your hands over the frame as much as you can. This enables you to feel what the eyes cannot see. Once you notice there are dents, scrapes, and even cracks, then that isn't the bike for you. Walk away and look for another seller

Fuel tank

This is something most people ignore when it comes to purchasing a used bike, but it shouldn't. Make sure you have a flashlight when you when carrying out this kind of inspection. Open the fuel cap and look inside.

You should be able to see through the light amber colored fuel and see the bare metal. If the fuel is dark, it means it is old, and therefore it has to be drained and replaced instantly. Plus, you should also be looking for grit and even rust in the tank, as well.

clutch

Clutch

At this point, you should sit on the bike and engage the clutch. Squeeze and release it slowly. The clutch should disengage smoothly without any pops or snags.

Then the last test is to engage the clutch and allow it to roll. If it is in good shape, the bike will go without any problem. On the other hand, if it doesn't, the clutch will be having a problem; hence needs to be adjusted.

Brakes

This is an important feature to look into. Start riding it to test if the braking system is efficient. Gently apply the front brake and later engage the back brakes.

The rear brakes should operate smoothly, which ensures the bike comes to a stop immediately. The braking system should have little or no noise when engaged. Once disengaged, the motorcycle should roll without any difficulties. If that isn't the case, then the brakes need to be adjusted.

suspension

Suspension

To test if the suspension is in the right shape, shove down the front end. Once you have done this, the forks should return to the position immediately and with little noise. If the sound is louder, it shows the forks needs to be fixed.

The forks seals have to be clean, smooth and it shouldn't have fork oil on the tops. If the oil is seen on the tops, you will be required to buy new seals. However, if there is rust or nicks on the fork tubes, then a repair is recommended.

The forks are supposed to be clean, smooth, and shiny, and if that is not the case, the repairs are needed. The rear shocks also apply the same theory.

Chain and sprocket

The tension of the drive chain should be checked as well. To test if the chain is in the right shape, pull it away from the rear sprocket. This should be done at a three o'clock position.

It should cover about halfway off the sprocket tooth and not any farther. If the length extends more than halfway, then it's time to replace it. Additionally, the inner area of the chain, which is in contact with the sprocket, has to be smooth, shiny, and clean.

oil

Oil

It is also vital to check the oil and know if it has been changed or not. If the oil is black, it means the oil is old and needs to be replaced. If the bike has a sight glass on the side of the engine, you can use it to see the condition of the oil.

If the sight glass on the engine is brownish or discolored, it means the oil needs to be changed. Additionally, if you see or feel shiny metal flakes in the oil, it means the engine is eating itself from the inside. Therefore, do not purchase the bike.

Verdict

Motorbikes are good for your health and also friendly to your pocket. Considering buying a car is more expensive. However, you must remain responsible on the roads and obey the traffic rules. Your safety is your responsibility.

At JP Motorsports and Marine, we offer high-quality bikes, both pre-owned and brand new. This ensures you get value for your money. Therefore, visit us in San Diego and purchase a bike at an affordable price.
