San Diego's Motorcycle Repair & Service Specialists
Whether it's by appointment or you need an emergency repair, you can visit our motorcycle repair shop in San Diego, where our motorcycle mechanic will take care of repairing your motorcycle problems or performing the relevant maintenance. In addition, we will do a general review of the condition of your motorcycle; if you need spare parts, we have high-quality parts at reasonable prices.
Our most requested motorcycle repair services include brake pad replacement, transmission or engine oil change, oil filter replacement, tire service, and engine reconstruction.
Why is it important to take your motorcycle to the repair shop?
Like any other vehicle or means of transport, motorcycles suffer continuous wear and tear that may be greater or less depending on the type of user who uses it. However, whether the motorcycle has daily or sporadic use, it is essential to carry out periodic checks to avoid future failures in the engine or transmission.
Motorcycles are machines that represent an investment for the owner. Therefore, we must take care of them and avoid carrying out maintenance if we do not have the necessary knowledge. It can be more expensive than taking it directly to a motorcycle repair shop for repairs and solving the problem.
One of the advantages of taking our motorcycle to the workshop is that in addition to receiving a specialized and professional service, the workshop will keep an updated record of our motorcycle to schedule future scheduled maintenance appointments to guarantee that the motorcycle is in the proper condition on the road.
How often is it recommended to take the motorcycle to the repair shop?
Surely you have felt concerned when a minor fault appears on your motorcycle. Perhaps you went over the recommended time to take it to the workshop. That is where the defect could have arisen, but don't worry because we will tell you the recommended time to avoid having maintenance problems with your motorcycle.
For tire maintenance:
The time will depend on the use we give our motorcycle; however, if the depth of the tread grooves is less than 1.6 mm, it will mean that they need maintenance and probably be changed. Likewise, if cuts, cracks, or deformations are observed in the covers, maintenance must be carried out, which, if detected in time, could be resolved with a few simple patches.
However, if no problem is visible to the naked eye, a professional inspection should be done monthly or every 3,100 miles, whichever comes first.
For an oil change, lubrication, and engine cooling:
Oil is a fundamental part of the excellent condition of a motorcycle since it directly influences the engine's proper functioning. When the engine starts, the oil is responsible for lubricating the main components, preventing wear due to friction, and helping to discharge the heat produced by the clutch.
For this type of maintenance, it is recommended to check the condition and level of the oil at least once a month, and it should be changed when the motorcycle has traveled between 4,350 and 7,450 miles.
Motorcycles with chains need cleaning, greasing, and tensioning with specific products and tools, so it should be borne in mind that a misapplication of this service can result in a spontaneous breakdown, increasing the risk of accidents. For this reason, you should only trust a trusted motorcycle repair shop in San Diego, like we are here at JP Motorsports.
As for the maintenance time, the chain should be greased every 310 miles, the tension should be checked every 621 mi, and the chain should be tensioned every 1,240 mi, saving you more than one headache.
Change of filters:
The maintenance of the filter is more important than it seems since its function is essential for the optimal operation of the engine. A clogged engine filter can reduce lubricant flow and cause engine failure.
On the other hand, the air filter is responsible for preventing particles that are in suspension from reaching the propeller and damaging it, so if it is clogged, it will not work correctly and will not achieve its function.
When the pertinent oil change is carried out, the oil filter must be carried out alternately (once yes and another no).
As for the air filter, it should be replaced when the motorcycle has traveled around 18,650 miles.
Brakes are a fundamental part of the safety of a motorcycle, so special care must be taken with the maintenance of this part. If the grooves are very worn, they will have to be changed directly.
However, it is generally recommended that the brake pads be replaced between 9,320 and 12,242 miles traveled.
A motorcycle's suspension usually receives a lot of wear and tear and is a common defect in most motorcycles. In addition, the loss of oil in the front suspension is very common at the time of inspections; therefore, it is essential to take it to the workshop for inspection and adjustment.
The suspension oil must be replaced every two years, and the rear shock absorbers every 43,500 miles.

If you want to be safe on the street and dirt, you've got to perform regular maintenance. Seriously, it's a good idea to be a lot more thorough about maintaining your bike than you would be with a car. If you don't want to do it or don't have the time, bring it in and we'll take care of it. Here's some things that you may want to check out.
Make sure tires are in good condition and properly inflated - don't just look at them, gauge it!
Check your brakes - fluid, cables, pads and rotors (check 'em if you've got 'em)
Engine and Transmission Oil - Keep those fluids clean and full. Keep your filters new and clean.
Leaks - Should be easy to find if your bike's been sitting for a long time, but check for unwanted fluids, wet connectors, puddles or other signs of drippage (note: this is perfectly normal for Harley owners - unlike with other bikes, Harley owners should service their bike if it is NOT leaking)
Cracks, dents or other frame or structural damage - once in a while do a thorough check on the complete frame and stress points to make sure there is no damage.
Chains and Drive Belts need to be checked regularly for proper tension.
Check all the switches - make sure ALL the lights, lamps and gauges work properly.
Make sure you are up to date on regular scheduled maintenance - call if you don't know the next recommended service for your particular vehicle.
JP Motorsports has professional mechanics, proper equipment and know how to help you keep your bike reliable. Call to schedule a time to bring it in and let our service professionals take a look at your street bike. It's the best investment you can make to stay safe and reliable for a long time.
